Imagine....

You are a woman in Africa expecting your first child. A happy event? Not here. Instead you will have a 1 in 16 chance of dying in childbirth

You are a doctor in Uganda. You are overworked, underpaid and undervalued. The latest equipment donation you were so grateful for three months ago no longer works.

You are the Hospital Administrator for an isolated hospital in rural Tanzania. You have been visited by emissaries from various Western countries bearing bright shiny promises and pledges of aid. Again. Perhaps you should take them to the equipment graveyard where most of the last batch now reside.

You have attended the 100th Rotary convention in Birmingham UK. Met old friends, made new ones and learned of the challenges facing doctors, anaesthetists and nurses working in the developing world. We hope you will pass this message to your own Rotary Clubs and pledge to help us, Bideford Bridge Rotary Club, make a real difference to the lives of the women, children and all those experiencing unnecessary pain and suffering in the developing world. Real answers do exist. It is time to do more than listen and learn.
We need to act on what we know.
